Since our beginnings in 2009, New Roots has connected thousands of individuals to farmers and a consistent supply of affordable, seasonal, farm fresh produce.

By the time we ended operations in Kentucky at the end of 2023, our yearly impact included:

      • 715 families (2145 individuals) accessing fresh, healthy, organic produce
      • 77 percent of our shares were purchased by those with limited resources or through SNAP Benefits
      • 7,200 shares sold
      • Ten markets open across Louisville and southern Indiana, including a continuing all free market at Christian Communities Friendship and Chapel Houses, and partners in  Hazard, Kentucky
      • $160,000 in revenue earned by local farmers

After 16 years of uniting Communities to spread food justice around Kentucky, we have decided to offer our Fresh Stop Market model and the New Roots mobile phone app to new places so we can help more eaters and farmers.

STORIES

Families

Candice BrewerShareholder and Fresh Stop Leader
Since becoming a shareholder with New Roots I am taking less medication and losing weight. My family has become more knowledgeable about what food to avoid. We have a better relationship with our neighbors and continue to make new relationships in our community.

Businesses

Mike MaysPresident Heine Brothers Coffee on their partnership with New Roots
In my opinion, it’s a win-win-win-win: we get to help some of our employees get a nice deal on this wonderful, fresh produce, and we get to support the Fresh Stop Market in making what it offers available to even more of our neighbors in the Portland Neighborhood.

We love Fresh Stop markets! Our partnership has allowed us to live our passion of getting local fresh veggies into peoples’ homes, and along the way we have met so many wonderful people who have become our community.

Volunteer

Peter ChampelliFormer New Roots intern
Not only was New Roots a great place for me to use my skills in video production, and to give back in a way that I cared about, but it also gave me a lot of information and passion to continue working in food justice.
