Great for the Community. Great for the Farmers
New Roots is a 501c3 nonprofit organization leading in the Farm to Table, Food Justice space. After 16 years of uniting Communities to spread food justice around Kentucky, we have decided to offer our Fresh Stop Market model and the New Roots mobile phone app to new places so we can help more eaters and farmers. We are realizing our initial vision of spreading food justice across the universe, and have moved into the exciting role of mentoring other Sponsoring Organizations to create, operate, and maintain Fresh Stop Markets, and sharing our New Roots Fresh Stop Market mobile app.
New Roots Sponsoring Organizations make fresh food available for all through the Fresh Stop Markets—farm-fresh food markets that pop up in various locations, usually every week or biweekly, usually during the growing season, June-November, at churches, businesses and community centers.
Sponsoring Organizations create, operate and sustain the markets. New Roots is the HUB, mentoring, consulting, and sharing our mobile smartphone app. Our goal is to spread our model fresh food distribution, centered on equity and dignity, around the country, so we can help more eaters and farmers.
Shareholders pay on a sliding scale, two weeks before each pick up date, usually $6 – $40, depending on the location. Markets are usually biweekly. Each bag contains six to nine varieties of fresh, local, mostly organically-certified vegetables and some fruit. Everyone gets the same bag regardless of what they pay.
The New Roots Fresh Stop Market mobile app guides you to the closest Fresh Stop Market when you sign up with your address. Then, the app will guide you to a price of a share based on your income and household size.
